Man, that heating leak in my house just drove me crazy.
I just couldn’t find it.
We live in an older house and with older houses come drafts. This was something I knew before we bought this house. And drafts just kill the efficiency of even the very latest in residential HVAC and gas furnace HVAC technology. And we live in a region where there is almost six months of winter and that’s not an exaggeration. The cost of HVAC heating is high enough without having a drafty house to make it worse. So when we bought the place, I had the windows replaced with double paned windows. We also added some insulation in the attic along with a new roof that was added by the seller before it went on the market. I put in some serious storm doors and the best weather stripping I could buy. All of my efforts were aimed at making a cozy space for my family and reducing the cost of HVAC heating. Yet, despite my best efforts, I still have that dang draft. And I scoured the house to find it but it took a visiting buddy to show me where it was. Actually, he showed me an instant read thermal gun and it found the problem. That thermal gun was what finally lead me to find the culprit when it came to my HVAC heating cost. Ironically, it was one of the windows I had had replaced. But that window had not been properly insulated and that was the problem. The window company got an earful from me before they corrected the problem. This winter will be saving even more on HVAC heating cost.
